A List by Rizal Renaldi

Jimi Hendrix

Guitarist / Singer / Songwriter

Jimi Hendrix was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. I have been into Blues since my junior high school days, and still until this day. Interestingly, my first encounter to Blues is not Hendrix, but later I learn that you can listen to all Blues you can think of, but if you absence to Hendrix, it is never been complete. Hendrix expanded modern Blues above and beyond.

For me, Matt and Muse always has a special part in my music journey. Through his music, he taught us to see beyond future, to always one step ahead, and just dont give a fuck about anything else. The world will be ready. Not all people, but some people might be ready. "Plug in Baby" and "Sunburn" are among Muse's songs that shaped my younger years.

I can not describes enough how RATM affects me personally. It is so important to the point where I will not be who I am today if it is not because of RATM. Critical thinking, always questions thing. Without lowering other RATM member role in shaping RATM music as a whole, but in my opnion, RATM will not be RATM if it's not because of Tom Morello. His guitar playing is so ahead of its time, it blows everyone's mind, and it's still today.

I was a bit late to know Morissey. After I dig thorough his lyrics, I instanly says that this gentlement is pure genius. His lyrics is so quircky and unique as if he has a pair of eyes that totally different from the rest of us human. On a side note, the brit's humour is always fit with my taste of humour, whether it's dark or light humour.

For me one of the amazing thing about Stuart is that he has the ability to turn something daily, common things that we forget, into beautiful, poetic story. His unique point of view to see things make almost every song of B&S is so light but being told so beautiful. I have the highest praise for Stuart.

Louis Cole

Singer / drummer / multi-instrumentalist / songwriter / producer

LA-based singer songwriter, producer and multi instrumentalist co-founded the alt pop/electro funk band Knower. More on Wikipedia

I started to got exposed to Louis Cole from Youtube. A multi instrumentalist, playing some groovy/funk stuff. His creative ideas are ahead of its time. Eventhough he's multi instrumentalist, which is usually generalist, but in his case I almost can identify his signature whether he's singing, drumming or playing keyboard, I can tell right away it is him. This was happened when the first time I found out about Clown Core. On second listens, I have suspicion it was Louis. Turns out I was right!

Michael League

Michael League is the bandleader of New York-based instrumental band Snarky Puppy and the international music ensemble Bokanté. He also founded the band Forq with keyboardist Henry Hey, and is also an owner and founder of the record label GroundUP Music. League has won three Grammy Awards. More on Wikipedia

Honestly I didn't know much about Michael League, but his music stamped in my head for quite a while. To be able to lead a non-committed band consists of a dozen musicians, while composing songs, is truly a rare ability. On a side note, Snarky Puppy's groundUP live recording video on Youtube will be one the most important music artefact for many many years ahead.
